Willard Carroll Smith Junior, better knownas Will Smith, is an actor, singer and producer from the US. He was born on September 25th 1968, in Philadelphia.Heis the son of Willard Carroll Smith Senior, a US Air Force veteran and refrigeration engineer;and Caroline Bright, a school board administrator. He has a sister, 4 years older than him, Pamela,and two twins younger than him, Harry and Ellen. He studied at a private catholic school and,later on, at a public High School. He went through his parents’ separationwhen he was only 13. When he finished High School, he was offereda summer scholarship to attend the MIT, but he turned it down because he wanted to rap.it was his passion. When he was 17, he met the one guy who wouldbecome his best friend and music buddy, Jeffrey Townes (townz).

He was the dj at a party Will was at, butthe rapper who was gonna perform with him didnt show up. So, Smith took the mic. They worked so well together on stage thatthey decided to start the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Soon after, at the end of 1985, they werealready releasing their first single, “Girls Aint Nothing But Trouble”. It was a total hit, just a month before Smithgraduated from High School. In 1986, they released their first cd, Rockthe House. In 1989, they got their first Grammy Award. This duo became famous with their parody songswith no bad words, and in 1991 they went through their major success “Summertime”. Thanks to it, they got their second GrammyAward and a 4h place in the US Hits List. Despite their great selling success, WillSmith got into financial problems that took him into a limit situation. In order to come through it, he decided totake the leap to the small screen and accept the NBC offer for the leading role in a TVseries, called The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The series turned out to be a success, andSmith started his career as an actor.

He soon set a modest goal for himself, becomethe greatest movie star, so he started studying the characteristics of blockbusters and chooseaccordingly his next projects. He starred in Six Degrees of Separation andBad Boys, both with a great reception, also outside of the US. The blockbuster Independence Day was releasedin 1996. At the time, it became the second box officehit in history. In 1997, he married Jada (jéida) PínkettSmith, an actress as well, known for her role as Niobe (náiobi) in the Matrix sequels. With her, he has two children, Jaden and Willow. He also has an older son, Trey, from a previousmarriage. Smith had already become a star, up to thepoint where he could reject roles, as he did with Agent J n Men In Black. Thanks God Jada convinced him to think aboutit - the movie became another box office hit and a success among the critics. He also debuted in music on his own - he wrote and performed the song for the movie - another success. It was included in his debut album “BigWillie Style”; published that same year, which made it to the top ten of the US hit lists.

In 1998, Will Smith starred the thriller “Enemyof the State”, and soon after he decided to reject the role of Neo in Matrix, so hecould have the leading role in Wild Wild West. The main theme of Wild Wild West was one ofthe songs on Will Smith’s second CD, “Willennium”. This time, he made it to the top 5 of thelists in the US. However, his final recognition came with his   nomination for best actor in the Oscars, for his performance as boxer Muhámmad Alí inthe 2001 biopic Ali. Smith’s career continued with the sequelsof Men In Black and Bad Boys. He didnt leave music asid either, and released  Born to Reign in 2002 and Lost and Found in 2005. In 2006, he reached another hit in his careerwhen he produced and starred the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness”. He not only shared the screen with his sonJaden, but he was also nominated for the second time for an Oscar as best actor.

A year later, he was honored again by leavingan imprint of his hands and feet in the Walk of Fame, next to the Chinese Theatre, in Hollywood. Since then, Smith’s career in cinema hasgone on, unstoppable, with movies such as I Am Legend, Hancock, Men In Black III, AfterEarth, and Suicide Squad. In his music career, however, he decided totake a break for almost a decade, until in 2017 he published Get Lit, and in 2018 heperformed the official song of the Football WorldCup in Russia, along with Nicky Jam and Era Istrefi He lives in Los Angeles, California, and isalso well known for his activism and charity work. In 2005, he donated a great amount of moneyto help the victims of the Hurricane Katrina. In 2008, he also gave some funds for BarackObama’s presidential campaign. He has also declared, publicly, his supportto the legalization of homosexual marriage. He is a very active celebrity in social networks. His Instagram account has more than 20 millionfollowers.

At the end of 2017, he opened his own Youtubechannel, a kind of personal diary, with anecdotes of his daily life and appearances of his familyand friends. It already has more than 3 million subscribers. In September 2018, Will Smith will turn 50. In this half a century, he has achieved whatmany have not been able to.
